Natural ways to remove makeup – is it worth it?

Dear girls!

Taking off makeup is the least favourite part of our daily skin care routine and let’s be honest  – it’s real torture for most of us. Pulling and dragging the skin around your eyes, wasting cotton pads… However, I’ve found some ways to make this routine no longer a nightmare. Believe it or not – it’s possible, so here are my suggestions to make this time a little more pleasant.

We all know that removing makeup is crucial for beautiful skin. The skin has to be cleaned properly, otherwise, even the best cosmetics will not do us any good.

The best way to achieve beautiful skin is definitely natural care, which happens to be very trendy nowadays. I quickly became a devoted supporter of it, because unlike anything else before, it helped to restore my tired and dull complexion. Many micellar lotions available in the drugstore irritated my skin (even the hypoallergenic products). Now I pay close  attention to the lists of ingredients of the products I use.

Natural ways to remove makeup – my best tips

Have you heard of a makeup-removing glove? It works like a scrub to remove dead skin cells and it prepares the skin for further steps of your routine. You don’t need any special cosmetics to use it. This interesting gadget stimulates blood flow and helps regenerate faster. Don’t rub it against your skin too hard, because it may cause irritation and even minor scratches. However, the glove is not suitable for sensitive skin prone to more damage.

You should try plant-based Aleppo soap. It has been well known for years, however, it has gained its greatest popularity currently. It works like a traditional soap, but it doesn’t irritate or dry out the skin. It can be used to remove even waterproof, heavy, and colourful makeup. It works well for problematic skin with acne or broken capillaries. It foams well, and after use, all you have to do is to rinse your face with warm water and apply your favorite night cream.

My next discovery is Dudu-Osun soap. It cleanses the skin and works well in removing even waterproof makeup. It regulates sebum production so that the skin isn’t too greasy. It evens out the skin tone and helped me to get rid of some difficult discolourations. It has a very short list of ingredients as it’s made only from shea butter, palm oil, and honey, which is a humectant that deeply moisturizes the skin and leaves it pleasant to the touch. I highly recommend it!

The next option is the very popular nowadays Oil Cleansing Method (OMO), which simply means cleansing the face using natural oils. It is an effective way for removing makeup and a general good skin care habit. The oil must be matched to your skin type – otherwise, it may have the opposite effect. The right oil will get rid of all impurities, dust, sebum, and cosmetics residues and will regulate the pH. This is a very gentle method, so even people with oily skin shouldn’t have any concerns. Oils don’t leave a greasy film on the skin, only a delicate protective layer that will shield your skin from harmful elements. Natural, unrefined, cold-pressed oils are beneficial for all skin types.

Also, I’ve tried some DIY facial scrubs and I really liked them. Some, like baking soda or honey, can be used to remove makeup. However, baking soda is very strong, so we don’t use it to remove makeup from your eyes, only the remaining parts of the face. It’s a great emergency option when we have just run out of makeup remover lotion or oil.

To remove light makeup, you can use saline solution. However, it’s too gentle if you need to take off heavy make-up. It is much milder than a micellar makeup remover. You can also mix it with chamomile tea so that it works as a toner.

Did you know that natural yogurt also works well in removing makeup? If I don’t have the time to go to the chemist, I simply put some yogurt on my face for 15 minutes and then remove any makeup residues with a warm cotton pad. This really works and also makes the skin feel smooth and moisturized.
